Write about a conversation that changed you.

A conversation that changed me was a conversation that I had with my mom recently about life. We talked for about an hour discussing the cycle of life. She said how it felt pointless that we live in constant worry and stress, because we all wake up, go to school, get a degree, go to college, work for the rest of our lives, then die. We said how we were going to stop stressing out about every little thing and enjoy it the most we can. I said I would do my best and get through school, but not push myself too hard. We are going to accept life for what it is, because we are born the way we are, and have the life we have, so we should be grateful for it and live it to the fullest.  today we took notes on how to obtain evidence from readings, then we created claims on the impact of social media on teenagers. After that, we drew evidence and support from two different articles. Today I learned that evidence can be summarized, it doesn't have to be a direct quote.

sep 26 Write about a fear you have overcome.

A fear I have overcome is embarrassing myself. Although I still struggle with it sometimes, I consider it to be overcome because I have made decisions to purposefully embarrass myself, and I realize that it isn't that serious. I used to be extremely scared of saying the wrong thing, or doing the wrong thing, and everyone judge me. However, when I learned to look at the bigger picture of life, I have realized that it's everyones first time living. People make mistakes and embarrass themselves all the time, and if they make fun of you it's probably because they don't want to embarrass themselves.  Today we practiced writing claims and opposing claims.  I learned that it can take 5 years to complete college if you have more credits to get.

sep 24 As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?

As I grow older, I've realized politics are a big part of our society, and it shows through daily conversations subconsciously. Politics are a very sensitive subject for the people of our country, and it's the biggest reason of division currently. Your beliefs as a human show throughout the words you say and actions you take. As I watch the people of our country divide, and the gullibility of generations increase, It makes me realize that I need to defend my points and speak louder about my beliefs because they can impact society.  I was absent this day.

sep 23 Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

A truth I was afraid to accept was that I am growing up fast and I need to start thinking about what I want to do in the future. Although I know that I have time, it tends to move really fast. I was told the same thing all throughout middle school and freshman year, but now it's junior year and time is creeping up on me. I still don't really have an idea about what I want to be yet. I am going to have to start looking at colleges and taking surveys to see what Im interesting in, and doing volunteer work or looking into careers with my interests.  I was absent this day

sep 22 write about a time when you were judged unfairly

One time that I was judged unfairly was when I was in middle school and I was wearing leggings with a regular t shirt. The dress code then was that your shirt should come down to your fingertips if you wear leggings. at that time, my arms were so long that if I wore a t shirt like that it would be a dress. My shirt wasn't short, but it wasn't super long either. I was called to stand up in front of the entire class and was told I couldn't wear that. I felt really judged by my teacher and I thought it was unfair because I saw many of boys breaking their dress code, but they never got in trouble.  today we completed a commonlit I learned that you can treat fear as an emotion and embrace it.

After viewing your classmates’ poem posters, select one presentation that caught your attention. Describe what you enjoyed about it or something new you learned from their work.

The one presentation that caught my attention the most was the one about dreams. This poem stuck out to me because it reminded me of my own dreams. It had a great poster that was very intriguing and beautiful. It made me think about how my dreams are like clouds, they come and go and flow away. today we did presentations I learned that everyone creates poems differently

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

If I were learning about Hispanic heritage for the first time, I would be curious to see what kinds of holidays they have. I would wonder if they celebrated Christmas, or if they had something else they celebrated that day. I would also be curious to what kinds of music they listen to. Lastly, I would want to know what types of foods they have and if they have cultural deserts. Today we did a cluster and took notes on thesis statements and reasons. I learned that the Thesis statement comes at the end of the topic paragraph.

t’s Homecoming Week! 🎉 What do you love most about being part of the Lakeside community? How do you show off your school spirit? What is your favorite Homecoming tradition or event?

What I love most about the Lakeside community is the dressing up and creativity for costumes, especially at homecoming games. I also like the freedom of not having that strict of a dress code. I show my school spirit by dressing up for the homecoming spirit weeks, coming to football games, and joining clubs. My favorite homecoming event is the dance because I get to take pictures with all my friends at pretty places.  I was absent this day

In “The Interlopers” by Saki, Ulrich and Georg view each other as interlopers, outsiders intruding on their land and their lives. Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes?

One time that I felt like an Interloper was when I was at a party with a lot of popular people from my school. I'm kind of friends with the majority of them, but we definitely don't speak on a daily basis. At the party, I really didn't talk to anyone because I wasn't friends with them and I was only one of the only people not drinking. It made me feel really out of place and I left early because I felt like I didn't belong there.  Today we did a commonlit on the interlopers  I learned that an interloper was someone who didn't belong or looked out of place.

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

I think I will use affectiations, adroit, and affluence. For affectiations, I think this will be used a lot especially in class, because it could be a certain assignment that is expected to be really good. I also thing ADriot will be used, because every students writing will be unique and different, but all using skills. This is a good descriptive word for informational writing. Lastly, I think Aegis will be used a lot, because we always use evidence when we write. Having Aegis is having support for what you are writing and backing up, so that it can be validated.  I was absent this day

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.

The learning method that I enjoy the most is class discussions with the worksheet work. For example, I like when we discuss and analyze poems together as a class, because it gives me a chance to be taught as well as ask questions. I tend to find working alone more difficult, and when it is explained and we can all take notes as a class, I understand it better. Today we finished our poems and made our posters I learned that you can make an animated character and use your voice to read your poem on Adobe express.

Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why

The aspect of creating a poem I enjoy the most is probably making the extended metaphor. I think it is interesting to see how you can connect two random things to each other that wouldn't normally relate and find things they have in common. I also think its interesting how you can write a lot of lines or not a lot of lines. It is original and all poems are for your own interpretation.  Today we started writing our extended metaphor poem I learned that an extended metaphor is an entire poem comparing one thing to another

After reading Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem "Constantly Risking Absurdity," which explores the poet's daring craft, write about your most absurd personal experience. Describe a single, specific incident that felt ridiculously bold or foolish. Ensure your response is vivid, concise, and captures the essence of absurdity.

One of my most absurd expriences ever was going on my first roller coaster. During my childhood, up until about 6th grade I hated anything adrenaline related, such as waterslides or going really fast in vehicles. I always refused to go on rollercoasters because I never liked that feeling. For one of my friends birthdays in the 6th grade, she wanted to go to six flags. When she invited me, I couldn't say no because I was her best friend so I went anyways. They told me that the scream machine was the least scary roller coaster there, so I went on with my friend. The whole time during the ride I was terrified and wanted to get off. I will never forget that memory, however, now I love rollercoasters.  Today we read a poem comparing an acrobat to a poet.  I learned that you dont have to lie in poems because it comes from the heart.

You are currently working on a soundtrack for selected Emily Dickinson poems. With that in mind, if asked to choose a song to describe your life right now, which song would you select and why?

If I were to choose a song to describe my life right now, it would most likely be stressed out by twenty one pilots. There is a lot going on in my life right now, and I am always really busy. I have been either working, babysitting, taking my brother to practice, and having lots of homework. I also have SAT prep classes upcoming, so I will have to quit my job for a while. All of this adds up and I have been very stressed out overall. Today we tested on Emily Dickenson. I learned that a slant rhyme is two words that are almost perfectly rhyming, but not completely.

If you were to compose a poem about one aspect of your life, which topic would it fall into and what would your overall life's message be?

If I were to compose a poem about one aspect of my life, it would fall into the topic of being yourself and not blending in. So far in my years of highschool and middle school, Ive always tried to fit in with the popular crowd or the crowd that 'everyone' likes. However, as I've discovered more things about myself, I realized that I should be friends with different people. Since then I have altered the people I surround myself with that have more things in common with me and are genuine.  I was absent today

You’ve been in American Literature for 4.5 weeks now. How has the class been going for you so far?

The class has been going very well for me so far. Everyday, whether its reading a poem or doing an assignment, we have a new lesson or theme. It seems to have been teaching me very wise things about life. However, sometimes I cant focus enough because I'm worried about getting called on to answer something when I don't know it. Other than that, the class has been working me at a good pace and teaching me a lot.  Today we read 2 poems and analyzed them. Today I learned to not be afraid of death and live in the moment.

Describe one thing that makes you different from other people.

One thing that makes me different from other people is not being exclusive. I don't like to make anyone feel like they are less than me or that I am better than them. I try to be friends with people that I want to be like, and not ones that make me feel as though I don't exist.  Today we did questions about a poem I learned that its okay to not be like everybody else.
